HBOT Helps Treat Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a syndrome in which a person suffers from long-term, body-wide pain and tenderness in the joints, muscles, tendons and soft tissues. In addition to being uncomfortable, those who suffer from fibromyalgia may also suffer fatigue, sleep problems, headaches, anxiety and depression.

“Tender points”, like the neck, chest, shoulder, lower back, hips and knees have sharp pains and then the pain spreads from those areas.  While it may feel as though the pain is coming from the joints, they are not the cause. Those who suffer from fibromyalgia may also experience irritable bowel syndrome, memory and concentration problems, numbness, tension headaches and reduced ability to exercise. The severity varies from person to person. To be diagnosed with fibromyalgia, widespread pain and tenderness must occur for at least 3 months in these areas: arms, buttocks, chest, knees, lower back, neck, rib cage, shoulders and thighs. Urine and blood tests may also be conducted to rule out other conditions.
Many things like traumatic events, repetitive injuries, illness or certain diseases can cause fibromyalgia. It also occurs when there is a lack of oxygen in the body tissue. Instead of using narcotics and other drugs, hyperbaric oxygen therapy can be used to deliver oxygen at a higher pressure, thus speeding up healing time.  Many people are now turning to HBOT to relieve their fibromyalgia pain without the side effects of certain prescriptions.
